E-Verify

E-Verify is a federal program which allows employers to verify the employment eligibility of new hires against federal databases. Although E-Verify is a voluntary federal program, many states now require employers with businesses in the state to enroll and participate in E-Verify. E-Verify not only compares I-9 data to federal databases, but it also provides photos to allow employers to perform photo matches as well. Lookout Services, Inc. ® is an Employer Agent with E-Verify Web Services. So, the I-9 solution seamlessly interfaces with E-verify, rolling two processes into one.

General Information

Generally speaking, E-Verify can only be used to verify the employment status of a new hire.  Currently, E-Verify reviews the data provided in the I-9 process, such as names, dates of birth, SSNs, and Document Id numbers, to determine employment eligibility.  If E-Verify determines that the data provided does not match their records, E-Verify provides a process where the employee can contest E-Verify’s findings by going to either the Social Security Administration or US Citizenship and Immigration Services to resolve any errors.  It is important to note that the employee continues working until E-Verify’s final response is received.
